It’s day 4 in Washington DC and each day seems to be better than the last!
Today we visited the library of congress and then we met with a women named Jessah who works for our Wisconsin senator Herb Kohl. She was able to talk to us about all of our questions about what the Senator is doing for Wisconsin in terms of education and poverty. After the meeting we toured the Capitol which is beautiful! To finish off our day of sight seeing we visited the Holocaust museum. I can speak for the entire group when i say that the museum made a huge impact on all of us. One of the most gut renching, impacting parts for all of us was walking into a room filled with tons of the shoes from the people in the camps. As we walked through we could smell the leather of the shoes. It really brought reality to the situation, that real people had worn those shoes and had died horrifying deaths. It was truely an eye opening expierence.
To finish off the day we went back to the Father McKenna Center where we helped with the Peace meal which feeds not only the homeless men of DC but also women and their children. It was the best part of the trip so far.We fed around 250 people, and everyone of them was so grateful. We were able to talk to some of them too. They were very eager to here about us and where we’re from and also to tell us some of their stories. Aside from the appreciation of all the people we served and the conversations we had, it was hard to think that these people who are just like you and I are sitting infront of you eating their only meal of the day and then have to spend the night sleeping outside, and did I mention tonight it is down pouring with thunder and lightening, yet all of the people were just happy to be able to have those few hours to sit and enjoy a warm meal.
Overall today was fantastic and incredibly eye opening. Can’t wait for tomorrow! đŸ™‚

Sounds like a really great experience (both with the Peace Meal and the sight seeing\meeting the senator staff). Thanks for all you are doing and for representing UW Oshkosh so well!
