1st day in DC!

Hi everyone!
Today was out first full day in DC! We had a very full first day. We had the chance to walk around the capital which is huge!(pictures coming soon). We also had a speaker, Colman McCarthy, come and talk to us about peace and how he actually teaches people peace. He shared with us some very inspiring ideas about nonviolence and how it can be achieved in all aspects of life. He also gave us some very thought provoking quotes one of which i will post at the end of this message πŸ™‚ After the speaker we toured Arlington Cemetery which is also huge and very impactful. We saw the secret service protect the under- secretary for the secretary of defense, it was the whole show with men in black suits talking into their watches, very exciting.
After Arlington we had an adventerous metro ride back to the McKenna Center(to be blogged about later by Beth and Megan). We then had the chance to feed the homeless men of the shelter dinner. It ‘s amazing how grateful they are for the little amount of food we can give them. It makes you really appreciate what you have.
That’s all for today….more exciting things to come so stay tuned! πŸ™‚

“I was hungry and you said apply for food stamps
I was homeless and you said there is a shelter in town
I was lonely and you said get a Sony Walkman
I was beaten and you said avoid dark allys
I was naked and you said a local church has clothes
I was sick and you said apply for Medicaid
I was illiterate and you said there are library cards
I was poor and you said God loves the poor
I was imprisoned and you said try the parole board
I was depressed and you gave me a smile button
I was dying and you said there is eternal life
Now I know why the answers are not solutions”

Can’t wait for the Metro story. I, too, love riding the Metro. Provided you get off on the stop you expected to! πŸ™‚
